Aloha Kakou,

It has been amazing to see the outpouring of love from people all across Hawai'i and even the nation. Mahalo nui to all that have donated both time and resources. Your continued support is much appreciated. This is a very unique disaster because unlike other disasters we do not know when this is going to end. The needs are ongoing, and additional families are needing help each day. What a wonderful opportunity for us to stretch and become a little more like our Savior as we minister to those in need. I know many people want to know how they can help so I have listed below updated volunteer and donation needs.

We don't need visiting teams due to housing restrictions and if you would like to make a donation and have the church direct the funds you may do that by clicking here.

Volunteers Needed:

Pu'uhonua O Puna Distribution Center at corner of Hwy 130 and Pahoa High School needs volunteers to help distribute items to families that have evacuated. Here is the link to sign up...

World Central Kitchen Volunteer Come help local chefs prepare meals for our emergency first responders, firefighters and community residents affected by the disaster. They will be prepping and delivering 500+ meals twice a day (lunch and dinner). They can use help in the kitchen (professional kitchen experience preferred/must be comfortable with knives), assembly line (anyone), and delivery drivers. Location: 15 1450 KahaKaiBlvd, Pahoa, HI 96778-6606 https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b054caead2ca4fa7-puna

Salvation Army Distribution Center set up near the Pahoa Pool needs volunteers to help distribute items. Here is the link to sign up.

Recovery Information and Assistance Center (RIAC) set up at the Pahoa Community Center needs volunteers to help with intake forms and to move people through the process. Here is the link to sign up.

The Red Cross Shelter at the Pahoa Community Center and Pahoa Gym (pet friendly shelter) needs volunteers to assist the Red Cross workers. To register with the red cross go to VolunteerConnection.RedCross.org. After you register you will need to attend a brief 1 hr orientation at the Red Cross head quarters in Hilo 55 Ululani st. Once the orientation is complete you will have access online to sign up for the shifts that you would like to volunteer.

Donations Needed

Pu'uhonua O Puna (grass roots distribution center on corner of Hwy 130 and Pahoa High School) see wish list... Please note that unlike the Red Cross, Pu'uhonua O Puna will take gently used items.

Pahoa Red Cross Shelter- see wish list here... Items should be dropped off to the Pahoa Gym (pet friendly shelter).

Kea'au Red Cross Shelter- see wish list here... Items should be dropped off to the Kea'au Shelter

Salvation Army is in charge of meal service for both the Pahoa and Kea'au Red Cross Shelter. They are in need of help with hot meals. If you have a certified kitchen and would like to provide a hot meal(s) or if you are willing to purchase hot meals from a restaurant and donate it to the shelter please call 756-0306

If you would like to donate money the best place to donate to is catholiccharitieshawaii.org/relief-support or hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/volcanorecovery. These monies go directly to relief efforts and to helping the families that have been affected.

Other Ways you Can Help

If you have housing available for families in need please register your housing with this website kokua.alohaliving.com/offer-housing

God has great plans for Puna :) Five years down the road we will be able to look back and see more clearly the mighty work that He is doing. What a privilege to be instruments in his hands to help bring about this great work. May God bless you in your efforts to serve our community. May God bless all the families and individuals that are suffering right now that they will see clearly His plan for them. May God bless us as we serve that we can keep our minds and hearts centered and focused on Christ.
